Final blog post

Hello readers,

I would like to announced that I am done with my latest project, GeoQuizzer! GeoQuizzer is a button based quiz game in which the player is shown the outline of a conutry and then is tasked to press the button that has the name of the country who’s outline was shown

Through this creation process, I made many changes to my original design. The one major change the I made was the omission of two separate difficulties, this change was made because I took a step back and thought about who the game was intended for. I then realized that I created this game for 8-10 year olds to teach basic memory and geography skills. This product, in my eyes, was not meant to be a challenge, but merely a fun introduction to geography for young kids. This, in the end was why I decided to only have one difficulty level. Another, smaller change that I made was not including the roll-over effect on my buttons. This change was made because I did not have the time to code the roll-over effect individually into over a dozen different buttons. All in all, these changes were not too huge, and allowed me to create a well polished product.

In terms of making the actual game, I mostly stuck to the design. Once I had figured out the process of making a button and redirecting it to a certain scene, it was mostly just repeteting that process over and over. For you guys, I will include the steps to making a button here.

  1. Create the object that you wish to become a button. Ex.

2. Select that object, right click it, and press “Convert to symbol”

3. Name the button, and select the “button” option in the drop-down menu and then press “OK”

4. Right click the keyframe where you want your button clickable, and press actions.

5. Type “stop()” (NO quotation marks and all lowercase)

6. Click on the <> icon in the top right corner of the actions menu

7. Click the ActionScript>Timeline Navigation>Click to go to scene and play

8. On the code that pops up, change the number within the green text to the scene that you wish the button to redirect the user to. i.e. “scene 2”

Go to the scene which the
